Haidn Computers offers computer repair and technical support for residents of San Miguel de Allende. We work on Windows desktops, Windows laptops, and Apple Mac computers.

We also help people switch their existing computer from Windows or macOS to Linux — a free, open-source operating system that works well on older machines.

Services

Below is a description of the problems we commonly fix. If you're not sure whether your issue is on this list, get in touch anyway — we're happy to take a look.

🐌 Slow performance
If your computer takes a long time to start up, open programs, or load web pages, this is usually caused by software buildup, old drivers, or too many programs running in the background. In most cases this can be fixed without replacing any hardware.
🔧 Something not working
This covers situations where part of your computer has stopped working — for example, the sound has gone quiet, the camera isn't being detected, the Wi-Fi keeps dropping, or a key on the keyboard isn't responding. We diagnose the cause and fix it.
💀 Won't start up
If your computer turns on but gets stuck on a loading screen, shows a black screen, or doesn't turn on at all, we can assess whether the problem is with the software or the hardware and advise you on the best path forward.
🖥️ Windows desktops
We service Windows desktop computers of all brands and ages — Dell, HP, Lenovo, Acer, and others. We can work on any version of Windows.
💻 Windows laptops
We service Windows laptops of all brands. Common laptop-specific issues we handle include overheating, battery problems, screen issues, and physical keyboard or trackpad faults.
🍎 Apple Mac computers
We work on MacBooks and iMac desktop computers. This includes software issues, macOS problems, and some hardware repairs. If a repair requires Apple-specific parts, we'll let you know upfront.

About Linux — and Why Some People Switch

In addition to repairs, we offer a service to migrate your computer from Windows or macOS to Linux. This section explains what Linux is and what the process involves, so you can decide whether it might be right for you.

What is Linux?  Linux is a free, open-source operating system — an alternative to Windows and macOS. It's the same type of software that runs your computer, but it's developed by a worldwide community of volunteers rather than a company. It costs nothing to use, and there are no ongoing subscription fees.

Linux comes in many different versions, called "distributions." Some are designed to look and feel familiar to people coming from Windows or Mac, which makes the adjustment easier. We help you choose the right one for your situation.

Topic What to know
Cost Linux itself is free. The only cost is our time to set it up.
Performance Linux generally uses less memory and processing power than Windows, which means it often runs noticeably faster on the same hardware — especially on older computers.
Security Linux is less frequently targeted by viruses and malware than Windows. It also doesn't send usage data back to a company in the same way that Windows does.
Your files Before any migration, we back up your personal files. Nothing gets deleted without your knowledge and consent.
What changes The look and feel of your computer will be different, though we choose a version of Linux that is as familiar as possible. Web browsing, email, and watching videos work the same way. Some Windows-specific software (like Microsoft Office) won't work, though there are free alternatives.
Devices we can migrate Windows desktops, Windows laptops, and Apple Mac computers (most models).
Is it right for you? Linux is a good fit for people who mainly use their computer for browsing, email, video calls, and watching videos. If you rely on specific Windows or Mac software, we'll talk through whether there's a Linux equivalent before you decide anything.

How the Process Works

Here's what typically happens when you contact us, from start to finish.

1

You describe the problem

Get in touch by email or phone and describe what's happening. You don't need to know what's technically wrong — just explain what you're seeing or what's not working. We'll ask a few simple questions if needed.

2

We assess the computer

We look at your machine and figure out what's causing the problem. We'll explain what we found in plain language — no technical jargon — and let you know what fixing it would involve.

3

You decide whether to proceed

We'll give you a clear idea of what the work involves before we do anything. There's no pressure to go ahead. If we think a repair isn't worth the cost, we'll tell you that too.

4

We do the work

Once you're happy to go ahead, we carry out the repair or migration. We'll let you know when it's done and walk you through anything you need to know.

About Kai Haidn

Haidn Computers was founded by Kai Haidn, who grew up in San Miguel de Allende. Kai has been interested in computers since he was six years old — initially just curious about how they worked, then gradually learning to fix and modify them. He is now 17 and has been working on computers for most of his life.

The company came out of a simple observation: a lot of people in town didn't have a convenient, local person to call when their computer had a problem. Many ended up sending their machines away or doing without for long periods. Haidn Computers is an attempt to fill that gap.

Kai speaks plainly about what's wrong and what the options are. If a problem isn't fixable, or if the cost of fixing it doesn't make sense, he'll say so.
