Haidn Computers offers computer repair and technical support for residents of San Miguel de Allende. We work on Windows desktops, Windows laptops, and Apple Mac computers.
We also help people switch their existing computer from Windows or macOS to Linux — a free, open-source operating system that works well on older machines.
Below is a description of the problems we commonly fix. If you're not sure whether your issue is on this list, get in touch anyway — we're happy to take a look.
In addition to repairs, we offer a service to migrate your computer from Windows or macOS to Linux. This section explains what Linux is and what the process involves, so you can decide whether it might be right for you.
Linux comes in many different versions, called "distributions." Some are designed to look and feel familiar to people coming from Windows or Mac, which makes the adjustment easier. We help you choose the right one for your situation.
| Topic | What to know |
|---|---|
| Cost | Linux itself is free. The only cost is our time to set it up. |
| Performance | Linux generally uses less memory and processing power than Windows, which means it often runs noticeably faster on the same hardware — especially on older computers. |
| Security | Linux is less frequently targeted by viruses and malware than Windows. It also doesn't send usage data back to a company in the same way that Windows does. |
| Your files | Before any migration, we back up your personal files. Nothing gets deleted without your knowledge and consent. |
| What changes | The look and feel of your computer will be different, though we choose a version of Linux that is as familiar as possible. Web browsing, email, and watching videos work the same way. Some Windows-specific software (like Microsoft Office) won't work, though there are free alternatives. |
| Devices we can migrate | Windows desktops, Windows laptops, and Apple Mac computers (most models). |
| Is it right for you? | Linux is a good fit for people who mainly use their computer for browsing, email, video calls, and watching videos. If you rely on specific Windows or Mac software, we'll talk through whether there's a Linux equivalent before you decide anything. |
Here's what typically happens when you contact us, from start to finish.
Get in touch by email or phone and describe what's happening. You don't need to know what's technically wrong — just explain what you're seeing or what's not working. We'll ask a few simple questions if needed.
We look at your machine and figure out what's causing the problem. We'll explain what we found in plain language — no technical jargon — and let you know what fixing it would involve.
We'll give you a clear idea of what the work involves before we do anything. There's no pressure to go ahead. If we think a repair isn't worth the cost, we'll tell you that too.
Once you're happy to go ahead, we carry out the repair or migration. We'll let you know when it's done and walk you through anything you need to know.
Haidn Computers was founded by Kai Haidn, who grew up in San Miguel de Allende. Kai has been interested in computers since he was six years old — initially just curious about how they worked, then gradually learning to fix and modify them. He is now 17 and has been working on computers for most of his life.
The company came out of a simple observation: a lot of people in town didn't have a convenient, local person to call when their computer had a problem. Many ended up sending their machines away or doing without for long periods. Haidn Computers is an attempt to fill that gap.
Kai speaks plainly about what's wrong and what the options are. If a problem isn't fixable, or if the cost of fixing it doesn't make sense, he'll say so.
Feel free to reach out with any questions, or to describe what's going on with your computer. There's no commitment involved in getting in touch.
